The Famous Snorkel Car
Long time Lotus Guru and Lotus Dealer Pat Thomas of Kelvedon Motors, will be debuting the ex John Miles, Jackie Oliver Lotus components BOAC 500 class winning Lotus 47 for the 2007 season. The car is known as the snorkel car due to its distinctive roof mounted air intakes.
Pat rescued the car from a scrap yard in Northampton 24 years ago and with the help of his long term race mechanic pal Tiny Tony the car has been completely restored and will be back on the track at Donington on the 22nd April at the inaugural race of the Heritage Grand Touring Car Challenge. The second race of the season is at Brands Hatch where the 47 had its famous victory in the BOAC 500.
"Having owned the car for 24 years, I'm finally looking forward to racing it” says Pat.

Last season in Heritage races, Pat Thomas raced the ex-Willment Racing Elan 26R first raced by John Miles in 1966. They scored 12 out of 14 class wins in the Elan and now aim to continue that form in the 47, the first such car to be seen in Heritage races in recent times.
Pat has been racing since 1975 and has done most of his racing in various Lotus’.
