| Description |
We currently have a very original 1967 BRM Lotus for sale. This really is a beautiful un-restored version of a special edition Elan sold through Mike Spence’s business (ex Lotus F1 driver). There were less than 10 of these cars produced, as confirmed by Mr David Porter who was MD at Mike Spence at the time, of which this is number 006. The engines were modified by BRM at Bourne in Lincolnshire. We also have the original information available written by the engineers at BRM the day it was dyno tested!
The car, which has only done 32,261 miles, has a lovely known history:-
The car has been in the same family from new. The current owner is only the second person to own the car, as the first was his uncle!
His uncle (Bob), was a friend of Brian Redman, and coming from reasonably wealthy families, and wanting to be racing drivers, they both bought BRM Elans for competition.
They then competed in local and National Hill Climb events. Unfortunately Bob’s father didn’t allow him as much free time for racing, but as history shows, Brian Redman carried on and became a world class racing driver.
This history was confirmed when the current car owner Mike Gregson met up with Brian Redman in the paddock at Laguna Seca in 1998, when Brian and David Hobbs were there to celebrate Porche’s 50 years of racing, and when Mike spoke to Brian about the car, he said “Those good old days with Bob…,so long ago”.
Since Mike bought this lovely car, it has been stored in his mother’s garage in the UK, and also in a friend’s garage in Germany.
As you can see, not only is this a lovely piece of motoring history, but it has a very special provenance. With less than 10 of these cars ever produced, it is a very rare occasion for one to come up for sale, let alone with this history attached, and even more so in it’s original, un-restored condition.
Kelvedon Motors were first in touch with Mike approximately 10 years ago, and finally ‘repatriated’ the car to the UK from Germany earlier this year after it took part in a road rally. They combined the collection of the car with a trip to the Old Timer’s GP at the Nurburgring in August.
